The Lanthorn, a concept website for a fictional inn: the first screen of its 3D tour, lit for golden hour with the demo’s time scrubber. The inn’s name and a live sunset-time chip sit over an upstairs hallway, where evening sun spills through the half-open door of the Keeper’s Room.

Things to try

  • Walk to the window

Scroll inside the frame: the door opens and you cross the room to the view. The light is Old Saybrook’s, right now.

  • Change the hour

Dawn to night in one tap. The sun moves to where it really is at that hour today.

  • Choose a room

Four kinds of room. Pick one and the room changes around you, with its rate and size.

  • Book a stay

A two-month availability calendar, by mouse or keyboard, up to a confirmation that books nothing.

If it were yours

What a real inn would get.

The Lanthorn is invented. These are the parts I’d build for a real one, with your rooms, your rates and your photos.

  • Rooms and rates as real text

    Essentials and up

Every room with its beds, size and price on the page itself, so search engines, screen readers and AI assistants can read them.

  • Your inn in structured data

    Essentials and up

Address, check-in times and rooms written in the format search engines read, straight from your site.

  • Booking that works with yours

    Professional and up

Your booking system built into the page, or a clear hand-off to the one you already use. Live availability comes from it, not from guesses.

  • Rooms and rates you can edit

    Professional and up

Change a rate, a photo or a room’s description yourself, without calling me.

  • A 3D walk through your rooms

    Custom and up

Built from your floor plans and photos, lit by your town’s real sun. It loads only when a visitor reaches it.

  • Your own availability engine and guest accounts

    Custom and up

Rules like weekend minimums, holds and returning-guest logins, if your booking system can’t do what you need.

Built with

Next.js · React · three.js · React Three Fiber

The same stack I use for client sites, with three.js for the 3D. The demo and its 3D scene load only when you reach them, so they don’t slow down the rest of this page. Every surface in the scene is drawn in code: there are no 3D model files.

Sections
Navigation, a five-part 3D tour, rooms, the house, booking, getting here with a drawn map, footer.
Interactive
A scroll-driven 3D walk from the hallway to the balcony and out to the dunes; a time scrubber; four kinds of room that restyle the 3D room; a two-month availability calendar with keyboard navigation, stay rules, a guest form and a sample confirmation with a calendar file. None of it is connected to a real booking system.
The light
Calculated on your device for Old Saybrook (41.29° N, 72.38° W) from the sun’s position right now, with NOAA’s solar equations. No weather or location data is fetched; nothing leaves your browser.
